 | 07:39 pm 1. Trying to get some old shit finished to get it out of my hair. 1a. Oh crushing despair at writing ability, fuck you very much.
2. Installed Ubuntu 12.04 via WUBI. That was ... suspiciously easy. *glares at it from around corner, waiting for it to explode* Like, actually plug and play? I feel like something is wrong here.
3. Never mind, have some Avengers bits I'm poking at.
( Mostly jokes about Tony, let's be fair )

 | 02:00 am - besides, there isn't going to be another one any time soon All right, I admit it. I watched a few bits of the Jubilee Concert on the television. Or rather, I listened to them, because I was ironing at the time.
And there were various entertaining things being performed, like some opera, and Diamonds are Forever (sung by Shirley Bassey), and Tom Jones performing Delilah, and someone else who I can't remember singing Mack the Knife, so all very suitable for a queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Finished most of the top of a new quilt. It's bigger than my usual stuff, so this is going to be "entertaining" to pin and quilt.
Another day off tomorrow. What a blissful thing it is to have days off. I never appreciated them properly when I was younger.
(Also, Belial is thrashing me in Diablo 3. I may have to actually develop some tactics.)

 | 04:00 pm - Weekly anti-procrastination update, June 4th Weather and sickness conspired against me this weekend :(
[\] Go to picnic/ _dragonwolf_'s show on Saturday - The picnic was canceled due to rain, but I did go to the show. [-] Make a dessert for the picnic (Sat morning/afternoon) - see: picnic called on account of rain [\] Go to fencing Tuesday and Thursday - Went Tues, missed Thurs due to sickness [x] Take my car in for service (Thurs morning) [x] Sign up for the next fencing session [x] Mail CPAP transmitter back to RR (Weds night/Thurs morning) [x] Wash my fencing jacket (Weds night) [-] Put together care package for artful_username (Fri night) [\] Writing: another 1,000 words on Jewel (Thurs night if Matt's out; Sat/Sun otherwise) - I wrote about 600 words on Weds? Thurs? night. I don't remember. Everything from Wednesday night to Saturday morning is kind of a blur. [-] Garden: weed/water bed in front of sunroom (Sun) - See: rain. Also laziness. [-] Get out on the lake again (Sun) - weather prevented this [x] D3: finish Act III (Fri/Sat) - This, at least, was a smashing success. I actually finished the game on Normal difficulty, and started Nightmare.
Other stuff wot I did: - Watched Inception with RiffTrax ("she always has this look on her face like she's seeing a naked fat man...") - Watched The Boy in the Plastic Bubble with RiffTrax - Watched more The IT Crowd - Got back into Skyrim again, in preparation for the Dawnguard DLC.
In detail: my plans for this week were seriously derailed by getting sick. Tuesday night at fencing I noticed my throat was getting a little scratchy; Wednesday I felt seriously out of it; Thursday I worked from home because I felt bad enough that getting up on time was a challenge; and Friday I just called in sick because I wanted to do nothing more than sleeeeeep.
Which I did. I probably slept about sixteen hours on Friday. I woke up on Saturday feeling like I'd awakened from a days-long dream. I wouldn't be surprised to see that my writing from earlier in the week looks like something dictated from the Monkey God.
Weather ixnayed the rest of my weekend plans - no paddling or picnics. I did go to Phoebe's show, however, which was an enjoyable smoothie of a dozen different Sherlock Holmes plots. Phoebe of course was marvelous as Irene Adler--it was good to see her in a major female role.
I had the opportunity to work in the garden--when I returned from shopping on Sunday, and the sun was peeking out from behind a cloud--but, I dunno, I didn't feel up for it. Blame it on recovering from illness, blame it on not using my CPAP Saturday night, but either way, I felt up for nothing so much as sitting on my ass and playing computer games much of this weekend.
Will this week be any better? Let's come up with a plan and see: - Go to fencing Tuesday and Thursday - Go to acousticshadow2's birthday party - Bill freelance work - Wash delicates - Writing: 1,000 words on Jewel - Organize my BPAL and finally send artful_username her dang care package - it's going to embarass me if I continue to put this on here and don't actually do it. - (Weather permitting) Go canoeing - (Weather permitting) Garden: weed bed in front of the sunroom - D3 co-op: Finish Act II on Nightmare - D3 solo: Finish Act I with my demon hunter on Normal - Skyrim: Finish the "restoring the Thieves' Guild" questline with Bri'hnassi - Do at least one 30-minute cleaning sprint on any of the following areas: upstairs bathroom, kitchen, sewing room, bedroom closet

 | 11:16 am - muzak time With all the other Euro prep going on, turns out the Official Song (that will inevitably be overshadowed by someone else's cooler unofficial song) has been released: It is "Endless Summer" by Oceana:
far too little Germans hugging it out for my taste SPEAKING OF
Soon as I find the German NT's theme song, I'll post that too. Any so far for the other countries?

 | 11:43 pm - the rain it currently raineth every day I suppose that logically it does make it a very British Diamond Jubilee to have had it raining throughout.
(No, I should really not find it that amusing.)
I did see bits on the television - that is, bits of the big procession down the river thing - but was mostly running the sewing machine at the time, so I just heard the commentator spouting off during the moments when I was handling the fabric out of the machine. I am glad that it went well and that people enjoyed it. I just don't really plan to do anything specific to celebrate it.
Well, unless they start selling post-Jubilee chocolates or strawberries at a reduced price over the next couple of days. You never know.
(It possibly also doesn't help that I'm just reading the new book from Mira Grant, Blackout, and imagining spontaneous zombie breakouts among the crowds and on the boats in the procession down the river. It would be messy.)

“I don’t know why dogs always go for postmen, I’m sure,” continued our guide.
“It’s a matter of reasoning,” said Poirot. “The dog, he argues from reason. He is intelligent; he makes his deductions according to his point of view. There are people who may enter a house and there are people who may not — that a dog soon learns. Eh bien, who is the person who most persistently tries to gain admission, rattling on the door twice or three times a day — and who is never by any chance admitted? The postman. Clearly, then, an undesirable guest from the point of view of the master of the house. He is always sent about his business, but he persistently returns and tries again. Then a dog’s duty is clear, to aid in driving this undesirable man away, and to bite him if possible. A most reasonable proceeding.”

 | 06:58 pm - I am banning myself from responding to stupidity on Tumblr So uh guys
you DO realize that the 1940s were full of real people who swore? Like, a bunch? and had terrible senses of humor?
like there are actual Warner Bros cartoons from WW2 that are literally so terrible and offensive in their humor that they are banned from being shown by anti-hate laws?
I mean I'll grant that Steve Rogers is going to be a lot surprised by gansta rap and all but dudes, he was not pelting Nazis with daisies and I can promise you that he may have heard a swear or two.
